But I agree with jman98 that burning, at least BDs, at 4X would be the safest. DVD's should be recorded at 1X or 2X for maximum compatibility. I have seen this with DVD burns, but never tried a BD burn at a very slow speed. Precision will certainly fall as the speed increases its a necessary consequence of the physics of the burning process. However, burning at very fast speeds is inherently less accurate than burning at low speeds. So, matching media and burning speed is critical. This can also put the drive in PIO instead of DMA mode due to errors. Such discs may not give reliable results when burned at low speeds. Dirty or scratched or discs recorded at high speed may not read very fast due to multiple retry's.
